The story is one I am/was only vaguely familiar with so I hoped, perhaps, that an accurate reconstruction of events might enlighten me somewhat. I was very pleasantly suprised by the honesty, cynicism and prolific sarcasm that pervades the films narrative. Save for Julia Roberts, the cast were perfectly recruited and delivered enthralling performances.
Tom Hanks was reliable in the lead role (the excellent actor that he is) and portrayed a complex character (Charles Wilson) with apparent effortlessness and absolute conviction. Supporting Hanks was Phillip Seymour Hoffman - adding another accomplished (and different) 'string' to his already populated 'bow'.
As much as I enjoyed the whole film I was most enamoured by the way the core issue was treated so minimally at the close of the film and required the viewers' own expansion and consideration of the ramifications and associated obligations of warfare (so prevalant in the current 'Iraqi' climate).
A thoroughly enjoyable film with the welcome substitution of cynicism over hollywoodism! 8/10.
